A Medicare Supplement policy only applies once Medicare Part A and Part B coverage is already in place. It is not a substitute for Medicare and it does not exist on its own; it sits alongside the coverage you already have.

It is a companion policy, not a replacement. Medicare stays the primary coverage; the supplement is there for what Medicare does not pick up.
